A native of Naples, Italy, Alessandro Dell'Acqua studied at the Art Institute of Naples before apprenticing with the design houses of Maska, Byblos, Genny and Gilmar. He also partnered with famed designers Iceberg and Les Copain. His innate talent and passion for knitwear landed him a coveted position with notable knitwear designer Pietro Pianforini.

In 1995, Dell'Acqua debuted his first eponymous women's and menswear lines at Milan's fashion week. The next year, he achieved international fame with his ""Punk on a Mediterranean Woman"" collection. Over time, his offerings grew to include eyeglasses, men's and women's ready-to-wear pieces, handbags and shoes. He also lent his design skills to the La Perla and Swiss House of Bally fashion houses.

Dell'Acqua is best known for his curve-enhancing, deeply feminine designs. The designer's loyal celebrity fan base includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Sophie Dahl, Iman, Padma Lakshmi and Winona Ryder.

In 2001, he debuted his first women's fragrance, Alessandro Dell'Acqua for Women. He released his self-titled men's scent in 2003 and rounded out his fragrance collection in 2005 with Woman in Rose.

In 2009, Alessandro Dell'Acqua shocked the fashion world when he walked away from his own label, citing creative autonomy. He quickly rebounded back into the design world the next year, however, with a new line, No. 21. As of 2014, Dell'Acqua is the creative director of the Rochas fashion house.
